57 SPONSORED - GLWA POU BONDYE!!

It all started when…

(Nov. 2019) from Becky Graves

A woman casually asked me, “What’s going on in Haiti?  I saw on the news that gangs are bad in some cities.  That’s not where you work, is it?”

And I started to cry.

The only thing I could say was, “That’s not a news story to me.  These are my friends.”

How does one whose heart is invested in Haiti possibly articulate what recent events feel like?  How does one explain the intense grief of the day-to-day “what ifs” as more and more time passes without resolution?  How does one explain that in the midst of such immense suffering there is hope, there is joy, there is beauty?

Haiti does not need our pity.  But she does need our compassion.

Jesus looked at people with compassion when they were hungry (Matthew 15:32), when they had physical ailments ( Matthew 20:34), when they were in spiritual distress (Mark 6:34),  and when they were emotionally distressed (Luke 7:13).
