Sòt pa touye, men li fè ou swe

Literal translation of this proverb could be: “Stupidity does not kill, but it makes people sweat.”

Everyone takes responsibility for something sometime. Sometimes, we know what we are doing. Some other time, we do not have any idea about what we are doing or how we are supposed to do it.

Some people are stubborn. They refuse to listen to warnings. Some other people are proud. They do not listen to advice. They want to do things the way they want.

Some other people are just awkward, not qualified for a certain kind of duty. In all cases, when we do not know how to do something and have to do it, it takes a huge amount of time and struggle to figure it out, fix it, arrange it, and assemble it.

This bucket isn’t going to accomplish much!

This bucket isn’t going to accomplish much!

Haitian people say this proverb when someone that has taken a lot of time before doing something or after someone has suffered the result of his pride, ignorance, stupidity or stubbornness.

When we take so much time to figure out something that we later find is so easy, we just feel stupid and realize that stupidity does not kill but makes people sweat.
