I am home from Haiti, and what a joyous time we all had together. These are heavy, dark times for the nation as a whole, but in our little corner of it all, we are continuing to thrive. May it ever be so.
Here are just a few of the moments worth remembering.
Highlights of the trip
Rose-Carmel came to me the first morning and said, “You are my friend, and you are my boss. I want to know you. Will you please tell me about your family?”
So we stopped what we we were doing and shared this moment.
Idelmy came to see me. He is happy. He’s thriving. He likes the work he is doing. That makes my heart happy.
The church at EEGC is growing, and I was asked to be part of a leadership committee. It was my honor to stand on Sunday with friends I have known for so long.
The young men at CERMICOL are a great deal of fun. They have so much energy, and they make this momma’s heart rejoice as I have the privilege to be part of some of the good times they experience. On Sunday, they proudly showed us this puzzle they had finished after we left on Friday.
My son, if your heart is wise, then my heart will be glad indeed; my inmost being will rejoice when your lips speak what is right.
Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD.
There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.
Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path.
Proverbs 23:15-19
Two Haitian police officers were shopping at the supermarket when we were there. I thanked them for what they do day-by-day for the country. They smiled and said that it is their job. The simplicity of their answer was impactful to me.
They may be just dogs, but to me, they are two of my best friends. Everyone should have someone who loves them the way Tchaka loves me. She’s learned the command, “Give me a hug!” and it’s the best thing ever.
"I want to have faith that there is no heart God cannot mend, no past He cannot redeem, no sickness He cannot heal, no relationship He cannot restore, no person He cannot save, no sin He cannot forgive, no need He cannot meet, no prayer so big that He cannot answer it.
"And yet to have that kind of faith is risky because it means trusting God and His Word. It means believing that God is good, that God does good, and that God is working all things together for my good, even when things don’t look good."
