Le se yon aveg k ap mennen yon lot, yo tonbe nan menm twou.

This proverb could be literally translated like this: “When a blind person is holding the hand of another blind person in a road, they fall into the same hole.”

We all have limits. We all have areas that we ignore how things work despite our skills, education, experiences, and degrees.  In English, you call these “blind spots.”

Some people do not admit their limitations. They are convinced to know everything and are ready to advise/mentor others. Some do that for a living, some others do that because they are ashamed or not able to say no or deny a responsibility they are given.

Haitian people say this proverb when they see/know that the leader/advisor does not know the field in which he is instructing others  They also say this proverb when they see someone following the advice of someone that does not know anything about the reality, knowing they will fail.

They even say this proverb as a warning to those who are searching the advice/mentorship/leadership from a novice and to advise people to accept to be under the leadership of someone who knows the subject not only theoretically but also practically.

Proverbs 4:7 tells us, “Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! And whatever else you do, develop good judgment.” Let us be wise in whom we follow and to whom we give authority in our lives.
